Totem coffee tables feature an asymmetrical cylindrical base and a tabletop. They are made of concrete: solid, essential surfaces that seem sculpted from the earth itself.
The initial phase involves preparing the mortar and casting the mixture into a mold. This blend consists of ultra-fine natural minerals and non-metallic organic fibers, which give the material exceptional mechanical strength and remarkable flexibility. It is during this process that the material is colored throughout, ensuring a consistent and uniform shade.
After approximately 24 hours, the piece is removed from the mold and enters a curing phase that lasts about a month. This step is essential: the gradual evaporation of water allows the cement to fully harden and achieve maximum structural integrity.
The manufacturing process continues with the mechanical removal of any excess material, followed by hand-sanding. This manual finishing step defines the tactile quality and final aesthetic of the surface.
Finally, a special clear, waterproof coating is applied to shield the piece from external elements, helping to preserve its appearance and performance over time.
